Dr. Harsit Pambhar· 10 Jan 2026· 1 min read

Burning in the chest or sour belching? These everyday food habits help calm excess Pitta.

Acidity is one of the most common reasons people visit an Ayurvedic clinic. In Ayurveda it is linked to an aggravated Pitta and a weak digestive fire (agni).

Eat in a way that calms Pitta

  • Eat at fixed times and do not skip meals.
  • Prefer warm, freshly cooked, mildly spiced food.
  • Include cooling foods such as cooked gourds, coriander, fennel and rice.
  • Take your last meal at least two to three hours before sleep.

Go easy on

  • Very spicy, fried, sour and fermented food.
  • Excess tea, coffee, alcohol and smoking.
  • Eating when angry, stressed or in a hurry.

Small habits that help

  • Sip warm water through the day.
  • Chew slowly and stop before you feel completely full.
  • Take a short walk after meals.

If acidity is frequent, wakes you at night or comes with weight loss or black stools, please see a doctor. Treatment is planned around your body type, so book a consultation for advice that fits you.
